Diego Borro Wins Premio Impulso for Impact

In the framework of the REEPRODUCE project, our colleague Diego Borro from CEIT Research Center, is the winner of the Premio Impulso in the Impact category.
“These awards aim to highlight professionals who make a more sustainable and people-centered industry possible, and to foster an ecosystem that drives digitalization and economic growth in our country. From the Observatory, we encourage professionals to promote new projects and participate in future editions.”
CEIT Research Center has developed an intelligent robotic system to dismantle and recover rare earth elements like neodymium from devices such as motors and hard drives.
This a challenge due to the wide variability of devices to be recycled – broken, dirty, and in diverse shapes – which has been addressed through an innovative combination of collaborative robotics, advanced computer vision, artificial intelligence models, and custom-designed disassembly tools.
The strategic goal is to create the first European industrial-scale, sustainable and competitive rare earth elements recycling chain, reducing external dependency and enabling a greener, more autonomous industrial future.
